Implant Placement

Others are done under general anesthesia at an outpatient surgery center. The setting depends on patient selection and the procedure planned; there is no set way and no guarantee either way. It is determined with Dr. Conkright at your consultation. The procedure itself typically takes about an hour.

Awake surgery is more than a way to avoid general anesthesia — for many procedures, it gives Dr. Conkright more time to work artistically: sculpting, refining, and closely attending to your comfort throughout. It’s a relaxed setting, which is why it’s often the preferred approach for facial work. And because you remain awake, you can participate and interact during your own procedure — a technical advantage general anesthesia doesn’t allow.

  • Immediately post-op: You will awaken wearing a surgical bra or compression garment to minimize swelling and provide support. Prescribed pain medication helps keep you as comfortable as possible. Common post-operative symptoms include mild swelling, bruising, and chest tightness.
  • Day one: Patients may shower the day following surgery.
  • First few days: Most patients are able to return to work within 2–3 days. Rest is encouraged but patients are motivated to return to normal activities quickly. Sleeping on your back with your head and upper body slightly elevated helps reduce swelling and supports optimal implant positioning.
  • First week: Most patients feel ready to return to light, non-strenuous activities within about three days. Bruising and swelling begin to subside.
  • Weeks 2–3: Activity is gradually reintroduced. Intense physical exertion and heavy lifting should continue to be avoided. Dr. Conkright may recommend specific gentle massage techniques to facilitate healing and implant settling.
  • Full recovery: Most patients resume all normal activities, including vigorous exercise, after about two to three weeks. It can take several months for all swelling to fully resolve and for implants to settle into their final position.
